Stephen Dooley, PhD student in Emerging Technologies in the StateStreet Advanced Technology Centre in UCC, will deliver a presentation on the following:
The purpose of this talk is to provide cross-industry learnings about the future, digital first consumer. The success of any B2C business is understanding their customer(s) and how-to best leverage that understanding. The most successful unicorn-type startups like Uber, Airbnb, Revolut and Deliveroo have capitalised on their biggest asset – understanding their users psyche. They have managed to overcome huge trust barriers in their initial adoption phase by demolishing some of the longest standing parental teachings (more like laws) on trust. “Don’t get into a car with a stranger” and “Don’t answer the door to somebody you don’t know” seem to be a thing of the past but how did these companies do that? This talk covers a breath of industries and new technology-centric business models focusing on successful breakthroughs like Roboadvisors, Digital banks and the Sharing Economy. It focuses on a number of intertwined topics including building user trust, generational differences, the upside-down transfer of social influence, changing wants, attitudes and beliefs of modern day consumers.
This presentation is targeted at companies or individuals who seek to learn from the biggest industry disruptors because they aspire to become one.
