International Women's Day is a celebration of the social, cultural and ecominc acheivements of women. It's a day for women and men to unite, rejoice and reflect on the deep history crucial role of women in society. This years theme focuses on a balance for a better world for both men and women with the idea of equality for all.
The goal for a better and balanced world doesn't stop at International Women's Day however and our guest speakers are primes examples of women who continue to strive to help others. Join us on the 8th of March at Republic of Work where welcome an array of speakers from a variety of backgrounds who will provide an insight to their working world and how they contribute to society.
Our celebrations are sponsored by Bank of Ireland and in aid of the Cork Cancer Care Centre (formerly known as the Girls Club Cork) with General Manager Linda Goggin James giving an insight to how the centre was formed and the continued support they offer to those affected by cancer. We also have Sarah Dineen founder of Amplify Digital who specialise in online marketing and web design. Our final guests include Dr. Tara Shine and Madeleine Murray of Change by Degrees, a local organisation who's mission is is to change the conversation on sustainability, empower people to make different choices and enable all actors in society to play their part.
We'll be accepting donations on the day with all proceeds going to the Cork Cancer Care Centre.
Bio of speakers:
Linda Goggin James, General Manager of the Cork Cancer Care Centre:
Linda took on her role at the Cork Cancer Care Centre, formerly known asThe Girls Club Cork, when her friend Ann Downey Spillane founded the club in 2011. Ann who at the time was going through her own journey of cancerbecame acutely aware of the need to support each others going through treatment. It was then the Girls Club formed to unite and support those affected by Cancer through workshops, events and fundraisers. Ann continued her brave battle with cancer, however she sadly passed away in 2017. Linda continues her role as General Manager at the centre. The club now known as the Cork Cancer Care Centre, provide a drop-in centre during the day as well as an array of free free services including counselling, psychotherapy and holistic therapies.
Sarah Dineen, Amplify Digital:
Sarah Dineen founded Amplify Digital in 2015, whose aim is to help SMEs market online through web design, social media management, and running effective adverts on Google and social media. They host the Amplify Digital Marketing Conference in Cork which has proved to be a huge success in bringing over 600 marketers together to learn and adopt new digital marketing practices. Additionally they hold seminars and workshops across Ireland.
Dr. Tara Shine and Madeleine Murray, Change by Degrees:
Dr. Tara Shine and Madeleine Murray are Directors of Change by Degreeswhich aims to make sustainability convenient for businesses and communities. Changes by Degrees helps businesses to create and tell their sustainability stories.
Dr Tara Shine is an environmental scientist with over 20 years’ experience working at the international level on climate change and sustainable development. She works as an adviser to governments, world leaders, businesses and international organisations.
Madeleine Murray who is an archaeologist by training with experience in research, editing and writing. She is an accomplished media strategist, creating and curating engaging, impactful content for businesses that reflects their values and vision. She is a successful entrepreneur and businesswoman holding several company directorships.
Together they founded Plastic Free Kinsale in 2018 - a community initiative the aim of which is to reduce single use plastic. They continue to strive to create a movement for convenient sustainability where people and businesses are informed and empowered to act differently.
